Main Distribution Area & Horizontal Distribution Area (MDA/HDA)

The MDA houses the main cross connect and the core routers and switches for the corporate LAN. The HDA houses cross connects and active equipment (switches) for connecting to the equipment distribution area and storage area network (SAN). Per the TIA-942 standard, both the MDA and HDA require separate racks for fiber, UTP and coax cable. Several Belden solutions provide maximum performance, density and management in the MDA and HDA, including:

10GX® Copper System

10GX_Copper_System

Features and Benefits

Provides cost-effective 10Gbps connections between the LAN/SAN/KVM switches in the Main Distribution Area and Horizontal Distribution Area and connections to the Zone Distribution Area.

The first 10 Gbps system with headroom, providing a future proof solution which performs to 625Mhz, well above the standard requirement of 500Mhz

With the increasing need for high density in all areas of the data centre the 10Gx Ultra High Density Patch panel fills that requirement in copper cabling providing double standard density with 48 ports per 1U.

Belden 10GX RoundFleX reduced diameter cable allows for high density of cable and small size allows improved airflow aiding cooling.

If 10 Gbps bandwidth is not required, Belden’s IBDN 4800 system exceeds Category 6 performance while our IBDN 2400 system meets Category 6 performance.

GigaBIX® Cross-Connect System

GigaBIX

Features and Benefits

  • Provides headroom for Gigabit connections between the LAN/SAN/KVM switches in the Main Distribution Area and Horizontal Distribution Area and connections to the Zone Distribution Area with a data rate of up to 4.8 Gb/s and a bandwidth of up to 300 MHz.
  • The most cost effective high density solution on the market with material cost saving of 80% compared to a standard patch panel system.
  • Provides ultra high density with configuration with a capacity of up to 14,400 terminated pairs.
  • BIX technology – introduced in 1979 – meets or exceeds the Category 6 standard, showing the longest record of proven performance of any connector on the market.

Belden 10GX® Pre-terminated Cabling System

10GX_Pre-terminated

Features and Benefits

Provides cost-effective 10Gbps connections between the LAN/SAN/KVM switches in the Main Distribution Area and Horizontal Distribution Area and connections to the Zone Distribution Area.

Where the goal is zero down time , budget constraints are present but reliability and performance cannot be compromised, Belden’s 10GX Pre-terminated Cabling System is a must :

  • Installation time and labour cost is reduced by up to 90%.
  • Guaranteed Category 6A performance with test results supplied with each assembly & guaranteed headroom up to 625MHz.
  • Factory testing minimizes testing requirements onsite
  • The green option within waste minimized and up to 50% material reduction in cabling topology.

FiberExpress® System

Features and Benefits

Provides cost-effective multimode connections between LAN/SAN/KVM in the Main Distribution Area and Horizontal Distribution Area and connections to the Zone Distribution Area

FiberExpress 50 µm multimode fiber fully supports 10Gbs and beyond

Small cable diameter minimizes air flow resistance and ultimately cooling impairment.

FiberExpress Secured Key system- provides a Tamper-resistant key design – prevents intruders’ access and the design cannot be reproduced inside a standard LC connector

FiberExpress MPO assemblies in both SM and MM, as well as a wide range of made to order simplex/duplex and multi-fiber cable assemblies infrastructure reduce installation time to a fraction of field termination, allow for flexibility and scalability and significantly reduce wastage as they are made to length and re-usable.

FiberExpress Ultra Patch Panel System

FiberExpress

Features and Benefits

Part of the FiberExpress System, which provides cost-effective multimode connections between LAN/SAN/KVM in the Main Distribution Area and Horizontal Distribution Area

Provides Ultra High Density with up to 96 fibers 1U and 288 4U.

Optimized access with rear and front access, removable swing out trays and pull out on connectors.

Improves Mean Time To Repair and Downtime with easy installation and moves adds and changes features such as the unique 2.5cm pull out on connectors.

Ultra flexibility and manageability is achieved via a truly modular approach

High Density Racking System

Racking_System

Features and Benefits

Houses the switches and cross connect within the Main Distribution Area and the Horizontal Distribution Area.

With space limitations becoming an increasing concern within the data centre Belden’s High Density Racking System provides unmatched density as clever cable management totally eliminates the need for horizontal managers.

High level of modularity makes this a very flexible product.

Adaptive Enclosure Heat Containment System

Heat_Containment_System

Features and Benefits

The Belden® Adaptive Enclosure Heat Containment Cooling Distribution System (AEHC) substantially reduces your active enclosure cooling costs by achieving 100% utilization of your existing cooling infrastructure. In a new data center, permits use of larger, more efficient CRAC units to achieve highest cooling per unit of power. The result is an efficient, “green” facility.

On average 2-3 times more cooling is being delivered than is required by the active equipment load – it is estimated 60% of the cool air that is generated by CRAC units is not getting to the intakes of the active equipment but rather is short cycling back to the cooling unit. Belden’s AEHC prevents this from occurring and in turn reduces the amount of cold air required.

Lowest total cooling equipment cost available per kW of active load

Active enclosure load location is divorced from cooling source locations
