Belden Expands Cat6A PROFINET Cable Portfolio for Data-Intensive IIoT Environments

Advanced 4-Pair, Type C Design Supports 10 Gb/s Data Flow for Robust Data Transfer and Stronger Signals from the Factory Floor

Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, has released DataTuff Cat6A, Type C PROFINET cables, designed to support the growing demand for high-volume data transfer from the factory floor. These advanced 4-Pair, Type C Design cables are able to transmit data up to 10 Gb/s whilst providing the reliable, ruggedized and flexible connections required in environments built for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

“The connectivity required by the IIoT is driving the trend toward more data at lower levels of the automation pyramid – including within individual sensors and actuators – and the need for an easier way to manage critical information.” said Peter Kauwenberg, product manager at Belden. “With these new high-capacity PROFINET cables, customers gain an immediate way to move data in large volumes, and at high speeds, from the factory floor to the rest of the operation.”

Depending on the application’s needs, three types of DataTuff Cat6A PROFINET cables are available – Type A (stationary), Type B (flexing) and Type C (trailing & torsion). Types A and B are designed in UL-style with polyvinyl chloride (PVC), low-smoke, zero-halogen (LSZH) and polyurethane (PUR) jacket materials. The new Type C cables have PUR halogen free jackets.

Ideal for industrial operations, such as automotive, oil and gas, food and beverage, and machine building, these DataTuff PROFINET cables are:

  • Flexible and future proof - They offer a large variety of quad cable options for trailing or torsion applications, and include new PROFINET Cat6A, Type C to meet requirements for extreme flexibility.
  • Reliable - The materials used in the cable, are designed to withstand harsh conditions, which lowers risk, optimizes network efficiency and reliability for mission-critical applications. They are approved for a full range of UL, IEC and VDE standards.

These new cables enhance Belden’s entire PROFINET product family, and can be used seamlessly with Hirschmann switches and Lumberg Automation connectivity components. “Network engineers can now easily connect their devices across all systems for efficient automation, using Belden as a single source for all Ethernet-based devices and support services.” concludes Kauwenberg.
